Mario Batkovic, born in 1980 in Banja Luka, Yugoslavia, is a Swiss composer and accordionist. He learned to play the accordion as a child autodidactically and moved to Switzerland in the early 1990s. Batkovic studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. He was a member of the Berner Mundartband Kummerbuben as an accordionist, singer, and composer. In 2015, he released his debut solo album Batković Solo (reissued as Mario Batkovic in 2017). He has composed music for several documentaries and films, including "Der Imker" (2013), "Die Schwalbe" (2016), and "Nachbarn" (2021). He was also one of several composers for the video game Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. In 2022, his work Aberratio was premiered by the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester. Batkovic received the Swiss Music Prize in 2023.
