Karl Hodina, born on June 7, 1935, in Vienna, Austria, was a musician. He founded the Vienna Modern Jazz Quartet in 1957 and later collaborated with Fatty George. In the 1970s, Hodina formed a duo with guitarist Ederl Reiser, focusing on New Viennese Song tradition, including notable songs like "Herrgott aus Sta" and "I lassert Kirschen für di wachsen". He also composed for various media, notably the ORF-TV program Der letzte Werkelmann at the Berlinale in 1972. Hodina's jazz collaborations included performances with Gerd Bienert and Alegre Corrêa on albums such as Jazz Zu Zweit (1985) and Brasilianische Schrammeln (2002). Throughout his career, he received several awards, including the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art in 2003 and the Golden Ring of Honor in 2004. Hodina passed away on March 24, 2017.
