Wai-man Kwan, born 31 July 1979 in Hong Kong, was a Cantopop singer who relocated to Vancouver in 1990. After winning the 1999 New Talent Singing Awards Canada Finals and the Best Potential Newcomer Award at the International Finals, she returned to Hong Kong and signed a long-term contract with BMA Records. Kwan debuted on 3 July 2002 with the album Jade-1, followed by Jade-2 on 20 December 2002. In 2004 Kwan faced controversy over a contract breach with TVB, which temporarily limited her media exposure. She continued to release music, including the 2005 album The 5th Element and the 2006 album Jade Loves…. After leaving BMA in 2009, she released 妍亮 Shine in 2009 and later signed with Stars Shine International for A New Beginning (2010). The 2011 EP 仍然 yielded the Number 1 single “仍然”, and her 2012 album Pause featured the hit “失戀哲理”. Kwan’s 2014 concert and compilation Say New + Best Selections marked a return to larger live performances, and the 2016 EP Smile coincided with her daughter’s birth. She resumed recording in 2021 with the album Emergence. Kwan’s career was recognized with multiple Best New Artist awards in 2002, the 2011 Hong Kong Volunteer Award, and the 2012 Ten Outstanding Young Persons selection, underscoring her sustained presence in the Cantopop scene.
