Max Reinier Nijman, born on March 18, 1941, in Moengo, Suriname, was a singer known for his soulful voice. He began singing at a young age, covering American soul and R&B artists in English. His breakthrough performance came at age 16 when he sang a Brook Benton song at a football game. In 1975, after moving to the Netherlands, Nijman released his debut solo album Katibo under Dureco Records, featuring notable tracks such as "Adjosi" ("Adieu"), which became his signature song. He followed this with collaborations including Wan Dei Lobi (1977) with The Stan Lokhin Band and Ini Wan Dé (1978). Nijman passed away on January 19, 2016, in Leiderdorp, Netherlands, at the age of 74.
