Duane Fourie, known professionally as Ashton Nyte, is a musician and singer born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He formed the gothic rock band The Awakening in 1995. His breakthrough came with his first album, Risen, which featured the band's first hit single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s "The Sound of Silence" that went to Number 1 on South African national radio. He released several studio albums with The Awakening, including Risen (1997), Request (1998), and Ethereal Menace (1999). In early 2000, he began his solo career with the album The Slender Nudes. Notable music videos and singles produced from this period include "Glam Vamp Baby" and "Need for Air". He continued to release solo albums such as Dirt Sense (2002), Sinister Swing (2003), Moederland (2014), and Waiting for a Voice (2020). Nyte has been based in the US since 2009.
