The band Markiz was formed in 1989 in Bursa, a city then known as Turkey's "Rock City." As one of the earliest pioneers of modern rock with Turkish lyrics, the group continued their musical journey in Ankara after 1991, where they pursued their university education. In 1992, they were named the best pop/rock band of the year by the Lebon Cinema Club.
Markiz performed various concerts in Bursa and Ankara, building a dedicated fan base. The band, which wrote its own lyrics and music, never released an official studio album. However, they recorded all of their songs in a studio they established, ensuring their music would survive to the present day. With a repertoire of nearly 200 original compositions, the group decided to step away from music around 2005 to focus on their personal lives.
These recordings, made with the technology available at the time, have now been digitally remastered—with AI assistance where necessary—and compiled into albums. This project is dedicated to the memory of their drummer, Ziya Ateş, who passed away in 2023.
