Grupo Paraíso are a Mexican cumbia sonidera band from Puebla formed in 1999 under the direction of Jorge Pastrana, known as Patrick, emerging from the local sound-system circuit with a lineup focused on keyboard-driven, instrumental-heavy cumbia for DJs. In their first year they recorded two studio productions, one of which featured an instrumental cumbia that became their first major sonidero hit in Puebla and neighboring states, paving the way for their breakthrough album De Puebla para el Mundo (100% Sonidero Poblano), released in 2001 by Producciones Fonográficas Jasper and packed with early staples such as “Cumbia de la Reata,” “Cumbia de los Sonidos,” “Cumbia de los Duendes” and “Cumbia Paraíso.” During the mid-2000s Grupo Paraíso expanded their catalog with albums like Sigo el Ritmo (2005), Niños de la Calle (2005), Cumbia de la Reata (2006) and Volver a Amar… (2007), mixing instrumental sonidero tracks with romantic vocal numbers including “Niños de la Calle,” “Quiero y Me Detengo,” “Buen Perdedor” and “Volver a Amar.” In the 2010s they continued to record for labels such as AVA Records and ATM Music, issuing releases like ¿Qué Será de Ti? (2013) and Inalcanzable (2017), which introduced songs such as “Loco Enamorado,” “Cumbia sin Sentido” and “La Danza del Popo.” Grupo Paraíso remained active into the 2020s with live and catalog projects including El Palacio de la Cumbia and Grupo Paraiso (En Vivo) in 2019, best-of sets like Grupo Paraiso Grandes Éxitos in 2021, new singles including “Cumbiambero” and “Cumbia Paradise,” and a series of 25th-anniversary live releases in 2025 revisiting “Cumbia de los Gatitos,” “Sueño Contigo,” “Los Extraterrestres” and other classics for streaming audiences.
