Marie-Josée Lord, a Canadian soprano of Haitian origin, was born in Haiti in 1970 and adopted by a Quebecois couple at age five. She began studying piano at seven but shifted to violin due to an injury. In 1992, she started her vocal training as a mezzo-soprano and secured her first contract with a lyric theater in the summer of 1994. Lord's breakthrough came in 1997 when she performed in Turandot at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Québec. She moved to Montreal in 1999 to join the Atelier lyrique and gained prominence with roles such as Liù in Turandot at the Opéra de Québec in 2003.
