Wardell, an indie folk rock band, consists of siblings Sasha and Theo Spielberg. The children of director Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw, Sasha and Theo began performing together as kids but officially started their band in earnest during college in 2010. Their breakthrough came with the song "Opossum", which was named an NPR Song of the Day in 2011 and led to their signing with Roc Nation. The duo released their debut EP Brother/Sister in 2013, following performances at South by Southwest that year. Their first full-length album, Love/Idleness, was released in 2015 under their own label. The band's name is derived from Theo's middle name and their mother's nickname. Sasha serves as the vocalist while Theo plays multiple instruments including guitar, drums, and piano.
