Indie-folk artist since the mid-2000s, clelia vega has carved a unique path, with a universe woven from dreamlike storytelling, lyrical melancholy, and ethereal indie-folk. Following the foundational milestone of Silent Revolution (Vicious Circle, 2010) and the EP Slanting Horizon (Amok, 2018), and enriched by fruitful collaborations (Cyesm, [Drive in] Static Motion, and the feminist creation WomenOmen with Nadia Simon in 2024), she now signs a very personal return to her roots.
This! Was The Road is an opus born from the artist's desire to outline the contours of a journey—simultaneously introspective and geographical, musical and emotional—that spans nearly a decade of existence. It explores themes of love and solitude, memory, fragility, strength and surrender, beginning and ending.
Geographically, this journey moves us from the scorched lands of the Californian desert (Velvet Mountain) to the melancholy filtered through the grimy windows of the New York subway (Between the Sea...), passing through the uncomfortable crossing of a raw, dirty, and sticky forest, an echo of a dystopian post-apocalyptic megalopolis (Cicero). The album is a pathway, presenting the road as a place in itself, a space in which to fully flourish despite doubt.
This! Was The Road seals a deep creative understanding with Rity Mabon (guitar), Cyesm (recording), Thomas Brousmiche (drums), Chloé Girodon (cello), and James P Honey (vocals).
