Zbigniew Jan Wegehaupt, born on August 9, 1954, in Katowice, Poland, was a jazz bassist. He studied contrabass at the State Music School in Katowice and began his career playing with established Polish jazz musicians such as Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski and Zbigniew Seifert, as well as the Big Band Katowice. Wegehaupt collaborated with notable artists like Tomasz Stańko, Andrzej Kurylewicz, and Jerzy Satanowski. He also worked as a studio musician for artists like Varius Manx, Anna Maria Jopek, and Aga Zaryan, composing the music for the film Tuchomie-20 Ha Sztuki. Wegehaupt released albums including Sake (1983), Wege (2005), and Tota (2008). He led his own quartet from the early 2000s and was a faculty member at the State Bednarska Music School in Warsaw. Wegehaupt performed at festivals such as Jazz Jamboree, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Bilbao Jazz Festival. He passed away on January 13, 2012, in Warsaw.
