Alberto Lysy, born on February 11, 1935, in Buenos Aires, was an Argentine violinist and conductor. He began playing the violin at age five and left school at 13 to focus on his musical training. In 1952, Lysy moved to London but returned to Argentina after performing for UNESCO in Paris. He won first prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels in 1955. Alberto Lysy studied under Yehudi Menuhin and established Camerata Bariloche in 1967 and Camerata Lysy in 1971, touring extensively with these ensembles. His recordings include A Purcell Anthology (1965) and 44 Duos Pour Deux Violons (1971). Lysy founded the International Menuhin Music Academy in 1977 and received the Stradivari International Pedagogical Prize in 2006. He died on December 30, 2009, in Lausanne.
