Hans Grischkat, born on August 29, 1903, in Hamburg, Germany, was a conductor, choirmaster, and church musician. He studied natural sciences at the Universität Tübingen before transitioning to musicology. Grischkat founded several choirs, notably the Reutlinger Singkreis in 1924 and the Schwäbischer Singkreis in 1931. Grischkat pioneered historically informed performances of works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Claudio Monteverdi. He conducted notable recordings, including "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen (BWV 51)" with Margot Guilleaume and the Bach-Orchester Stuttgart in 1951, and Vespers of 1610 in 1953. His influential work included conducting St. Matthew Passion. He passed away on January 10, 1977.
