The Aerial Maps, an Australian band from Sydney, was formed in late 2007 around Adam Gibson's vocals and lyrics. The initial lineup included Simon Holmes, Sean Kennedy, and Adam’s brother Simon Gibson. Their debut album In the Blinding Sunlight was released in 2008 by Popboomerang Records and received strong reviews, with "On the Punt" gaining significant airplay. In 2010, In the Blinding Sunlight won Best Spoken Word Release at the Overland Poetry Awards. The band's second album, The Sunset Park, was released in 2011 and also met critical acclaim. Following extensive touring, the band briefly morphed into Adam Gibson and The Ark-Ark Birds before a hiatus due to the passing of founding member Simon Holmes in 2017. After a five-year break, The Aerial Maps reconvened with a new lineup and released Intimate Hinterland in 2021.
