Frederik Köster, born on October 14, 1977, in Olsberg, Germany, is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger. He studied school music at Detmold under Max Sommerhalder before pursuing jazz trumpet and composition at the Musikhochschule Köln. His breakthrough came with his involvement in the BundesJugendJazzOrchester from 2001 to 2005. Köster released his debut album Constantly Moving in 2006. He has collaborated with notable artists such as Albert Mangelsdorff, Randy Brecker, and Nina Hagen. His compositions have been performed by ensembles like the WDR Big Band and NDR Big Band. Köster has also toured extensively, performing at festivals such as JazzBaltica and North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2013, he joined Trilok Gurtu's band for international tours. Köster’s notable awards include the Jazz Hoeilaart International Contest prize in 2006, the Neuen Deutschen Jazzpreis in 2009, and two Echo Jazz awards in 2010 and 2017. His album Stufen was released in January 2023.
