Hans Robert Zanotelli was a German conductor and music director who was born in Cronenberg, German Republic, in 1927. He achieved early professional recognition after learning violin and piano autodidactically and was admitted to the Musikhochschule Köln at age 14. His career included roles as Kapellmeister in Düsseldorf (1951) and positions in Bonn (1954) and Hamburg (1955). He served as the chief conductor of the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker between 1971 and 1984 and later as GMD of Kiel starting in 1985. His discography includes the studio recordings of Georges Bizet’s Te Deum (1978), Francis Poulenc’s Gloria (1978), and Eugen d'Albert’s Tiefland (1964).
