Martin Derungs was a Swiss harpsichordist and composer born on 12 May 1943 in Chur. He received music instruction from his father and Lucius Juon before studying at the Musikhochschule Zürich and the Musikakademie Basel, where he earned a Solistendiplom for organ in 1967. He furthered his studies under Günter Bialas in Munich. Derungs served as a radio editor for Deutsche Welle and taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe between 1980 and 1984. His compositions were influenced by avant-garde movements and frequently featured the recorder. His discography included the vocal work “Dämmrig blau...” (1967) and the collection Giarsun (1977–1998). He also composed stage works such as Bündner Wirren (1989) and Anna Göldi (1990). Derungs received the Bündner Kulturpreis in 2009. He died on 31 May 2023 in Basel.
