Funky Diamonds was formed in Belgium in 1996 by five members: Simone “Mo” Peter, Diethilde “Dee Dee” Gomes, Indra Zimmermann, Yvonne “Y” Spath, and Sibel Dugan, who later left and was replaced by Kira Lingenberg. The group began as a dance troupe performing for DJ BoBo between 1993 and 1996 before signing with Boombastic Music Berlin. Their first single, "Bad Girls" (October 28, 1996), introduced them to the European market, followed by "I Know That You Want Me" and "It's My Game" (July 9, 1997). In 1997 they released the album Funky Diamonds, which featured bonus tracks in the Japanese edition, and in 1999 followed with the album Diamonds Are Forever. The group toured extensively in Japan, serving as a supporting act for the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, and appeared in German media, though domestic chart success remained limited. In 1998 the group received a Gold Award from R.SH for Most Successful Girl Group from Germany 1997. Despite international exposure, internal changes and limited domestic traction led to their disbandment in December 1999, coinciding with Kira Lingenberg’s departure. Post‑disbandment, former members pursued dance careers and other entertainment roles, while the group’s catalog remains available through limited reissues and digital platforms.
