Chris Constantinou is an English bassist and backing vocalist who was born in London, England. He achieved professional recognition as the bass guitarist and backing vocalist for Adam Ant and is famous for his work with the musical supergroup The Mutants and for his career under the pseudonym Chris De Niro. He moved to Plymouth at age three and started his career as a bass player for Diz Watson before forming the rock band the Drill in 1977. The Drill signed to RCA Records and released singles including Les Drill (1978) and “Juliet” (1979). In 1982, Constantinou joined Adam Ant’s live band for the Friend or Foe album tour and later became a member of the mid-1980s lineup that recorded the album Vive Le Rock (1985) and the single “Apollo 9” (1984), which reached number 20 on the UK charts. In 1996, he formed the post-punk ensemble JackieOnAssid, for which he handled lead vocals and bass. The group toured Europe and released the studio recordings 4Play (2001) and Zip Me Up (2002). Constantinou also co-wrote the tracks “The Wolf Is Getting Married” (2012) and “I Had a Baby” (2012) for the Sinéad O’Connor album How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?. In 2007, he collaborated with Daler Mehndi on the single “Two Eyes (Do Naina)”, which reached Number 1 on the BBC Asian Network charts. He co-founded The Mutants in 2013 and has since released albums including Rhythm and Punk Review (2014) and Tokyo Nights (2015). In 2020, he established the projects One Thousand Motels and RudeGRL + CC.
