Carlos Enrique Mata Iturriza was born in Caracas, Venezuela, on 28 August 1952, and began his artistic career as a singer and actor. After studying violin and acting, he entered the Venezuelan television scene, where his early performances in telenovelas provided exposure that led to his first recording contract. His debut single "Que por qué te quiero" appeared in 1985, coinciding with the release of the album Que por qué te quiero, which remained in the top positions of Latin charts for several weeks. In 1988 he issued Enamorado de ti, and in 1990 followed with Cautivo, both of which reinforced his presence on radio and television. In 2014 he released the single "Mas Que Nunca", continuing his output into the 21st century. The 2021 album Yo Soy Carlos Mata marked a return to the studio after a long interval. Throughout his career, Carlos Enrique Mata Iturriza achieved multiple gold and platinum certifications across Latin America, the United States, and Spain, and his recordings have been featured in international tours that spanned Europe, North America, and Asia. His sustained chart success and recognition as a notable figure in Latin pop music underscore his lasting influence within the genre.
