Helmut Branny, born in 1957 in the Erzgebirge region, is a German conductor and double bassist. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden from 1973 to 1979, focusing on the double bass. Following his studies, Branny joined the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden. In 1994, he founded the Dresdner Kapellsolisten, a chamber orchestra with which he performed extensively across Europe and Asia, including venues like the Berliner Philharmonie and Mailänder Scala. Notable collaborations include performances with Alison Balsom, Martin Stadtfeld, and Matthias Goerne. Branny also held a professorship for chamber music at his alma mater in 2003 and notably led the Cappella Musica Dresden. His discography included multiple albums featuring works by Mozart, Franz Peter Schubert, and Arcangelo Corelli. In 2010, he received an Echo Klassik award for his recording of Weichet nur, betrübte Schatten.
