Taktici, a Slovak rock band formed in 1977, started their career at Bratislava's V-klub. They gained attention for original melodic songs with controversial Slovak lyrics, producing enduring hits from 1977 to 1979 that were popular on the radio but never officially released. In 1979, after an invitation to participate in Gary Glitter's show in the UK, three members—Vlado Kolenič, Július Mikeš, and Štefan Peller—defected to the US following tour cancellation by the communist government. Their songs were banned, and band members faced interrogation. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Taktici's music returned to the airwaves. In 2013, the original members reunited for a show in New York City. Notable releases include the compilation Taktici 1977-1997 (1997).
