Kimmo Pohjonen, born on August 16, 1964 in Finland, is an accordionist recognized for his avant-garde and experimental music. He started playing the accordion at age eight and studied folk and classical music at the Sibelius Academy. Pohjonen's career began in the 1980s with folk music recordings and collaborations such as Pinnin Pojat and Ottopasuuna. His solo debut, Kielo, was released in 1999. Notable albums include Kluster and Iron Lung. He has collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on Uniko and KTU, featuring King Crimson members Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn. Pohjonen has toured extensively across Europe, Japan, and North America, performing at festivals such as South by Southwest. His innovative accordion work blends traditional folk with electronic beats and jazz.
