Dana Valery Catalano, born Fausta Dana Galli on July 15, 1944, in Italy, is a singer who began her career at age 16 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her family immigrated to South Africa from Italy in 1947. She started her music career with the release of "Hava Nagila" and "Tintarella di Luna" in 1962. Valery's early success included winning two SARIE awards for Best Female Vocalist in 1964 and 1965. Her first US album was a collaboration titled Horns Of Plenty with Al Hirt and Boots Randolph, released in 1971. She recorded "You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies" in January 1967, which became notable on the Northern soul scene. Valery's solo debut album in the United States was Not The Flower, But The Root in 1972. Her follow-up album, Dana Valery, was released in 1975 under RCA/Phantom and produced by Leslie West of Mountain. She also starred in three productions of the South African musical revue Wait A Minim! including the Broadway production which ran for 456 performances from March 7, 1966 – April 15, 1967. Valery appeared on several television shows in the United States and the UK during the 1960s and 1970s, including What's My Line? and Ladybirds.
