Roland Hermann, born September 17, 1936, in Bochum, Germany, was a notable baritone singer and educator. He studied at universities in Freiburg im Breisgau, Mainz, and Frankfurt am Main, completing his vocal training under Margarethe von Winterfeldt, Paul Lohmann, and Flaminio Contini. Hermann won the First Prize in the competition of German radio stations in 1961. His operatic debut as Mozart’s Figaro occurred in Trier in 1967, leading to his engagement with the Oper Zürich from 1968 onwards. Throughout his career, he performed in major cities including Munich, Cologne, Buenos Aires, Paris, Milan, London, and Berlin. Notable roles included Don Giovanni, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Germont in La traviata, and Amfortas in Parsifal. Hermann passed away on November 17, 2020, in Zürich.
