Ana Sofia Dias da Costa Bacalhau, known professionally as Ana Bacalhau, was born on November 5, 1978, in Lisbon, Portugal. She is a Portuguese singer who initially gained fame as the lead vocalist of Deolinda, a band inspired by fado and its roots. Bacalhau's musical journey began with her role as a founding member of Lupanar in 2001, where she recorded a CD and contributed to a tribute album for Carlos Paredes. In 2005, she formed the jazz and blues trio Tricotismo before joining Deolinda in 2006, which became her breakthrough group. With Deolinda, Bacalhau released several notable songs including "O meu coração" with Anaquim in 2010. Her solo career commenced with the album Nome Próprio in 2017, followed by singles such as "Memória" (2020) and "O Erro Mais Bonito" (2019). Bacalhau has also collaborated on various projects, including Canções de Roda, Lenga Lengas e Outras que Tais in 2019.
