Ghetto People was created in 1996 in Germany as a studio project by musician and producer Detlef Malinkewitz. Musically, the project moves between Eurodisco and dance-pop. In 1996, the single "In the Ghetto" was released under the project name. The song becomes the only notable chart success. In Germany, the single reaches number 17 in the charts. In Austria and Switzerland, the song also reached the charts. It remains the only single success.
