Michael Seal, born on May 3, 1970, in London, is a British conductor and classical violinist. He began studying the violin at age nine and played with the Kent County Youth Orchestra. Michael Seal continued his education at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, winning the Birmingham Philharmonic Concerto Prize. In 1992, he joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) as a violinist and started conducting in 1996. Notable performances include substituting for Sakari Oramo in the world premiere of Richard Causton's Between Two Waves of the Sea in 2004. Michael Seal was appointed Assistant Conductor of the CBSO in 2005 and Associate Conductor in 2011, a position he held until 2014 when he devoted himself full-time to conducting. His discography includes albums such as Nino Rota: Film Music & Concertos (2023), Adrian Sutton: Orchestral Works (2024), and Bliss: Miracle in the Gorbals & Metamorphic Variations (2025).
