Bohumil Gregor was born on July 14, 1926, in Prague. He studied double bass at the Prague Conservatory but focused on conducting under Alois Klíma and Karel Ančerl. His breakthrough came directing Prodaná nevěsta by Bedřich Smetana in Prague. Gregor's career began in the Czech capital, then moved to Brno. He later directed the opera in Ostrava from 1958 to 1962 and launched his international career with performances at the Edinburgh Festival. Notable roles included directing the Royal Opera in Stockholm from 1966 to 1969. In 1969, he made his U.S. debut with Jenůfa in San Francisco. He returned to Prague for the world premiere of Bubu de Montparnasse by Emil František Burian in 1999. Gregor passed away on November 4, 2005.
