The Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, led by American jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, was active from 1946 to 1950 and from 1956 to 1962. The band's origins trace back to Gillespie's tenure with Billy Eckstine and His Orchestra. In mid-1945, Gillespie attempted his first big band venture but faced internal conflict. The following year, Gillespie reformed the band with help from Gil Fuller, who arranged compositions including "A Night in Tunisia" (1942) and "Things to Come". Notable albums include Dizzy Gillespie y Su Gran Orquesta (1954), The Original Dizzy Gillespie Big Band in Concert (1954), Birks' Works (1957), and Carnegie Hall Concert (1961). The band disbanded in 1950 but reformed from 1956 to 1962. Post-breakup releases include Live in Stereo at Chester, PA. June 14, 1957 (1993) and Complete 1956 South American Tour Recordings (2015).
