Heinz Julius Rehfuss, also known as Heinz Rehfuss, born on May 25, 1917, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, was a German-Swiss operatic singer known for his roles as bass-baritone. He received early training from his father, Carl Rehfuss, and debuted in 1938 at the Städtebundtheater Biel-Solothurn. From 1940 to 1952, he sang at the Zürcher Opernhaus, interpreting nearly 80 roles. Rehfuss then embarked on an international career, performing at venues such as the Mailänder Scala and Opéra National de Paris. Notable recordings include Gounod's Romeo et Juliette (1953) and Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn (1963). He also premiered works by composers like Luigi Nono and Frank Martin. In his later years, Rehfuss taught at the State University of New York in Buffalo. He died on June 27, 1988, in Buffalo, New York.
