Chen Pi-hsien, born on November 15, 1950, is a Taiwanese-German classical pianist. She began piano lessons at age four and moved to Cologne at age nine to study at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, earning her diploma in 1970. Chen's breakthrough came in 1972 with prizes at the Concours Reine Elisabeth and the Rundfunkanstalten ARD International Piano Competition in Munich. Her discography includes recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations BW 988 (1986) and Boulez's Notations & Piano Sonatas (2005). Chen has performed at significant places such as London, Amsterdam, and Tokyo, collaborating with orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra and conductors including Bernard Haitink. She became a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Köln in 1983 and at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in 2004.
