Farid Ferragui, born Ali Ferragui in 1953 in Taka, Algeria, is a Kabyle singer. He graduated from the École normale de Tizi-Ouzou in 1973 and initially worked as a teacher before moving to France in 1976. His music career began in 1981 with the release of his first hit single "Ay ul i gebɣan tullas", which gained popularity in Kabylia and among the Kabyle diaspora established in France. Ferragui's distinctive style, characterized by his use of the oud, derbouka, and sometimes the bendir, set him apart from other Kabyle singers. He released several albums throughout the 1980s and beyond, including Levhar (2003), Asif N Tudert (2007), and Nekk d yimaniw (2012). His music is entirely composed in a single mode essentially based on the quarter tone, called bayati in oriental music.
