The Veldt, formed in 1986 in Raleigh, North Carolina, is an alternative soul and shoegaze group consisting of identical twin brothers Daniel and Danny Chavis. The band took their name from a Ray Bradbury science fiction story. After signing with Capitol Records in 1989, The Veldt released their debut EP Marigolds and the single "CCCP" in 1992. They toured extensively across America, opening for acts such as The Jesus and Mary Chain and Cocteau Twins. Their 1994 album Afrodisiac is considered a classic of the shoegaze genre. The Veldt's discography includes notable albums like Universal Boat (1996) and Love At First Hate (1998). The band has received media coverage from outlets including Pitchfork and Stereogum, with their work influencing artists such as TV On the Radio and Bloc Party. In 2023, they released the album Illuminated 1989.
