Citybeat, a musical group from Hong Kong, was formed in the 1980s and consisted of five members: John Laudon, Daryl Ching, Jerry Marshall, Jym Kay, and Chuck D. Eddy. The band initially gained recognition for their English-language songs but later became notable as the first American band to record in Cantonese. Their breakthrough came with the release of their self-titled album Citybeat in 1988, followed by 逃 (1988). Citybeat toured extensively across Asia and beyond, performing in China, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Macau. The group's song "Standing as One" gained significant traction during the 1989 Tiananmen Square Student movement in China, leading to their historic performance at the Concert for Democracy in China held at Happy Valley Racecourse. Citybeat disbanded in 1991.
