The Coral Sea is the music project of Los Angeles born singer-songwriter Rey Villalobos. The current lineup includes longtime bandmates James Van Arsdale on lead guitar and Erich Riedl on drums. Villalobos started out as a drummer in bands bouncing between LA and Portland. He eventually settled in Santa Barbara, where he picked up an old classical guitar, started writing and singing, a few years later premiering the debut album Volcano and Heart with the newly formed band The Coral Sea. After 3 indie rock album releases, he then released 3 solo folk albums on French and Spanish labels while spending significant time performing solo throughout Europe. The music moves between shimmering indie rock and slow-core dream folk. New LP May 2026. ----
The Coral Sea est le projet musical du chanteur-auteur-compositeur Rey Villalobos, né à Los Angeles. La formation actuelle comprend ses partenaires de longue date James Van Arsdale à la guitare lead et Erich Riedl à la batterie.Villalobos a commencé comme batteur dans des groupes qui faisaient la navette entre Los Angeles et Portland. Il s’est finalement installé à Santa Barbara, où il a repris une vieille guitare classique et a commencé à écrire et à chanter. Quelques années plus tard, il présentait son premier album Volcano and Heart avec le groupe nouvellement formé The Coral Sea. Après trois albums de indie rock, il a ensuite sorti trois albums folk solo sur des labels français et espagnols, tout en passant beaucoup de temps à se produire en solo à travers l’Europe. Sa musique oscille entre un indie rock scintillant et un dream folk slow-core. Nouvel LP en mai 2026.
