Keith Marshall was born on June 5, 1956 in Hampstead, London, England. He is a British singer, guitarist and songwriter who first became known as a founding member and part of the permanent line-up of the British glam rock band Hello. Hello was founded in London in 1971 and was one of the most important representatives of 1970s glam rock; the classic line-up included Bob Bradbury (vocals, guitar), Keith Marshall (guitar, backing vocals), Jeffrey Allen (drums) and Vic Faulkner (bass). The band achieved chart success with singles such as "Tell Him" and "New York Groove" and shaped the British glam rock sound. After the break-up of Hello at the end of the 1970s, Keith Marshall began a solo career. In 1981, he released his self-titled debut album Keith Marshall, which brought him nationwide fame. This album produced his best-known single "Only Crying ", which became a top 10 hit in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and also enjoyed chart success in the UK. Prior to this, Marshall released his solo single "Remember Me" in 1979, which generated his first attention as an independent artist. "Only Crying" was followed by further singles such as "Let Me Rock You", which also charted in the German charts. Keith Marshall remained active in the mainstream after his greatest success, but did not release any further albums with a similar international resonance as in 1981.
