Marcin Oleś, born January 4, 1973, in Sosnowiec, Poland, is a jazz and free improvisation bassist, composer, and record producer. He began his recording career in 2000 and has since collaborated extensively with prominent musicians including Theo Jörgensmann, David Murray, William Parker, and Ken Vandermark. In 1999, Oleś won individual prizes for bass and drums at the International Jazz Juniors Contest in Kraków and was named Best Double Bass Player at Jazz Nad Odra in Wrocław. In 2003, he co-founded the Trio Oles Jörgensmann Oles with his twin brother Bartłomiej Oleś and Theo Jörgensmann; their album Directions was voted “Best Recording of the Year 2005” by the Polish jazz magazine Diapazon. His discography includes notable releases such as Mikro Muzik (2002), Walk Songs (2006), and Live in Poznań (2007).
