Dominic Duval was an American double bassist active in the free jazz and modern classical genres. Born on April 27, 1945, in New York City, he was the son of bassist Dominic Duval Sr. He began recording regularly in the 1990s and became a prolific figure in the New York City jazz scene. Duval appeared on a high volume of albums for labels such as CIMP, Cadence Jazz, and Leo Records. Between 2007 and 2011, he studied at the Eastman School of Music, where he was the principal bassist of the Eastman Philharmonia. His discography included the studio recordings Nightbird Inventions (1997) and The Experiment (2000). He collaborated with musicians including Marc Copland, Andrew Cyrille, and Cecil Taylor. Duval performed on tours across the United States, Europe, Canada, and Asia. He died on July 22, 2016, at age 71.
