Kincade were a British glam rock/pop band who formed in 1972. The group's breakthrough came with their hit single "Dreams Are Ten a Penny", which was written by John Carter and his wife Gill Carter. Although the band had not materialised as yet, the song was released on the Penny Farthing Records label and reached number two on the German charts, sticking around for six months and selling a million copies. The song also charted in countries such as Australia, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and South Africa. To promote the hit, Penny Farthing Records enlisted John Knowles to assume the role of frontman for Kincade, which led to several successful tours. John Carter's reluctance to perform live prompted Larry Page to launch John Kincade as a solo artist, resulting in multiple hits on the German charts from 1973 to 1975. In December 1972, Paul Griggs formed the touring band for Kincade along with his brother Nigel Griggs and Rick Williams. The group made promotional trips and appearances, but disbanded following their last TV performance on Disco 73 in December 1973.
