Kalamari, a Slovenian rock band, was formed in 1993 by Jože Jež Pepi and Matjaž Švagelj. The band's lineup was completed by Boštjan Tršar and Egon Prinčič. Their breakthrough came in 1998 with the release of S tabo držim, which brought them national recognition. Notable songs from this period include "V vetru rdečih zastav," which placed second at the Slowenian Pop Song Festival in 1999, where the lyrics won first place. The band continued to release albums including Popoldne (2001), Deset let (2003), Lahko letiš (2006), and Veliko srce (2009). In 2010, Kalamari collaborated with Roka Žlindre for the Eurovision Song Contest, performing "Narodnozabavni Rock" but were eliminated in the semi-finals.
