The Badische Staatskapelle, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, originated in 1662 as the court orchestra of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach. The ensemble's Kapellmeisters include notable figures such as Giuseppe Beniventi and Johann Philipp Käfer. The orchestra disbanded during the Polish Succession War but was reformed in 1743. Under Markgraf Karl Friedrich and his wife Karoline Luise, the orchestra flourished, incorporating members from the dissolved Rastatt court orchestra. In 1808, it became part of the Grand Ducal State Theatre in Karlsruhe under the name Grand Ducal Baden Court Orchestra. Notable directors included Franz Danzi, Joseph Strauss, and Hermann Levi, who led the premiere of Richard Wagner's Parsifal. The orchestra has performed works by composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Strauss, with significant milestones including the 1876 premiere of Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1 under Felix Otto Dessoff.
