Deathday, an experimental post-punk band from Santa Ana, California, was formed in 2008 by brothers Alex Guillén and Giovanni Guillén. The duo made their live debut at Los Angeles venue The Smell in September 2008, performing with a vintage drum machine. As their sound evolved, Joevanie Lopez joined on drums, expanding the band's capabilities. In 2010, Deathday released their EP Ghost Pains, which garnered attention from French label Desire. This led to the expansion of Ghost Pains into a full-length album titled Deathday, released in 2012. The album included the song "Charles Joseph Whitman", inspired by the 1966 Austin tower sniper incident. In 2013, Deathday released the split EP with Bestial Mouths and the EP No Future.
