Ute Kannenberg, known professionally as Tanja Berg, was born on September 11, 1941, in Berlin and was a German singer. She began her musical journey at age 15 by singing in a band that played Skiffle, Dixieland, and Jazz at a youth club in Berlin-Pankow. Her breakthrough moment came when she appeared on the DDR television casting show Herzklopfen kostenlos. The construction of the Berlin Wall in August 1961 led her to relocate from East to West Berlin, where she restarted her career. Berg studied classical singing at the Städtischen Konservatorium Berlin but left due to simultaneous engagements with bands like the Red Onions and Firestone Band. In 1964, she released her first single supported by film composer Martin Böttcher and sang the title melody for the film Das Phantom von Soho. She gained further recognition with songs like "Nacht für Nacht" (1965) and "Lange Beine – lange Finger" (1966). From 1970 to 1973, Berg was featured six times in the ZDF-Hitparade. Her notable albums include Ich Hab Dir Nie Den Himmel Versprochen (1972), which included hits like "Ich hab' dir nie den Himmel versprochen" and "Die nächste Liebe kommt bestimmt". She also recorded a German version of the James Bond theme "Diamanten sind für immer". Despite her success, Berg left the Schlager scene in 1974 to pursue other musical directions.
