Belgian violinist Michael Guttman was born on December 20, 1957, in Brussels. Encouraged by his pianist mother Simone Guttman, he began studying violin at a young age and was admitted to the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles before moving to New York's Juilliard School at 17 years old. Michael Guttman made his debut recital in New York in 1988. He collaborated with Israeli composers such as Noam Sheriff, recording an album with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Throughout his career, he performed as a soloist and recitalist at venues including the Barbican Centre in London, Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Japan. He recorded 20th-century violin concertos with the Royal Philharmonic and London Philharmonic Orchestras, which were broadcast by the BBC. Michael Guttman founded Pietrasanta in Concerto, a chamber music festival in Italy, in 2006, serving as its director.
