Lilis Suryani, born on August 22, 1948, in Jakarta, Indonesia, was a notable singer known for her contributions to Indonesian pop music. She began her career at age 15 with Irama Records, achieving early success with hits like "Cai Kopi" and "Di Kala Malam Tiba". Her most notable work, "Gang Kelinci", from the album Gang Kelinci (1965), became a cultural milestone for its critique of President Sukarno’s "Guided Democracy" program. By 1982, Suryani had released over 500 songs across twenty albums, and her career continued for decades. She also acted in several films. Suryani passed away on October 7, 2007, from uterine cancer. "Gang Kelinci" was later recognized as the 66th-best Indonesian song of all time by Rolling Stone Indonesia.
