Weapon of Choice is a Los Angeles–based funk rock band formed in 1992 by bassist and songwriter Lonnie Marshall following the breakup of his earlier group Marshall Law. Marshall described the band’s hybrid style of rock, funk, hip hop, jazz, and reggae as “Nutmeg.” The group signed to Stone Gossard’s Loosegroove label and released Nut-Meg Sez “Bozo the Town” in 1994, followed by Highperspice in 1996 and Nutmeg Phantasy in 1998. After Loosegroove ceased operations, the band released Illoominutty on the Nuttsactor 5 label in 2002 and Color Me Funky in 2004 through Funk To The Max and Ter a Terre. A version of “My Nutmeg Phantasy” recorded by Gray appeared on her album The Id (2001), and a Tom Morello remix connected to the band’s material was included with the film Spider-Man (2002).
