Francis Coppieters was a Belgian jazz pianist and arranger born on 7 September 1930 in Brussels. He studied at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique before beginning his professional career as a teenager with Toots Thielemans in 1946. After performing at the 1948 Jazz Festival in Paris, he joined the band of Hazy Osterwald from 1949 to 1951. He collaborated with René Thomas and Jacques Pelzer before becoming a member of Aimé Barelli's ensemble. In 1957, Coppieters moved to Germany to join the orchestra of Kurt Edelhagen, where he remained until 1962 while teaching at the Cologne Conservatory. He later worked as a composer for television and released the studio albums Piano Viberations (1975) and Colours in Jazz (1986). Throughout his career, he performed with musicians including Slide Hampton and Lucky Thompson. Coppieters died on 9 November 1990 in Germany.
