Stephan Wittwer, born on March 1, 1953, in Zürich, Switzerland, was a guitarist known for his contributions to electronic music and jazz. He began playing guitar as a youth and later received classical guitar training. Wittwer's early career involved collaborations with notable free jazz musicians such as John Tchicai and Irène Schweizer. His first significant album release was Choice-Chase in 1995, followed by Streams in 2001, which earned an Honorary Mention at the Ars Electronica for Digital Musics. Wittwer's work spanned various genres and collaborations, including projects with Radu Malfatti, Rüdiger Carl’s quintet, as well as Werner Ludi’s groups Sunnymoon and Red Twist & Tuned Arrow. He also composed film scores for artists like Peter Fischli and David Weiss. Wittwer passed away on September 18, 2024.
