Singer, songwriter, musician, and on-air personality Miyuki Nakajima was born in Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan on February 23, 1952. Since 1975, she has released over 40 albums, a similar number of singles, numerous compilations, and a half dozen live albums, selling over 21 million units in the process. Her musical career began in 1972 when she won a songwriting prize at a folk contest. She continued to perform at write songs, winning a prize in 1975 at a Yamaha Music Foundation-sponsored songwriting contest. This led to her signing with Canyon Records and releasing her debut single, “Azami Jō no Lullaby”. Miyuki Nakajima released her debut album, Watashi no Koe ga Kikoemasuka, in 1976. The album featured the single “Abayo”, which was her first Number 1 hit on the charts. She continued to have hits throughout the rest of the 1970s and into the 1980s including "The Parting Song (Wakareuta)" (1977), “Akujo” (1981), “Yūwaku” (1982), and “Hitori” (1984). Beginning in the mid-1980s, her singles and albums weren’t charting as high, although they still remained in the Top 40. She returned to the top of the singles chart in the mid-1990 with “Between the Sky and You” (1994) and “Wanderer’s Song” (1995). As a songwriter, she also wrote for other artists including Keiko Masuda (Pink Lady) and Yoshi Kashiwabara. Miyuki Nakajima began to pursue other interests including becoming a radio personality and acting roles on television series and experimental theater productions. Even though she was focused on other endeavors, Miyuki Nakajima continued to release hit albums including Night Light (2012), Hard Problems (2014), Musical Suite (2015), Contralto (2020), and 2020 Last Tour: Results All Right (2022).
